What to Expect After a Procedure
Following a procedure, you will be asked to take it easy for a few days because the new healing components in your body need time to do their job. Some procedures many require multiple treatments to achieve maximum results.
The downtime will vary depending on the procedure performed. Most procedures will only require a few hours to a few days of reduced activity. However, regenerative therapies for knees, shoulders and other body injuries could require 2-4 weeks of rest.
Whether you suffer an injury or your body is called into healing mode by laser treatments, the healing stages that the body goes through are the same.
Phase 1 – Inflammation
During the first 12-72 hours following an injury or laser treatment your body is in phase 1 of healing. This is when your body experiences the physical effects of inflammation such as swelling, pain, heat and redness following an injury or specialized laser treatment.
Phase 2 – Regeneration
The proliferation or regeneration phase typically lasts 3-8 weeks. In this healing stage, your body begins to rebuild new tissue, repair nerve connections and form new blood vessels. Mesenchymal stem cells, growth factors, cytokines and extracellular matrix work to regenerate damaged or inadequate tissue in the body.
Phase 3 – Remodeling
The last stage of healing process can take up to a year or more to fully complete. During this phase, your body may appear to be healed but cellular activity continues to remodel injured or inadequate areas. Tissues are gaining strength and functionality during the remodeling phase. It takes time for the body to completely heal. If a wound area is stressed to soon, there is a risk of it breaking down again.
